I want to go to Kazakistan too!
26th September 2006
Saad is travelling again, so another night, where time seems to be standing still. I'm waiting for that all important phone call, to know that he has arrived safely, then I can tuck myself in and go off soundly to sleep.
Saad is travelling, and as I look over I can see Omer blissfully asleep and snoring away in his cot, so another opportunity to sit still and think. An age has past since I last wrote. The travelling trials I waxed lyrical about seem a lifetime away. Since then I travelled back from London on the 11the of August, (a day after the bomb scares at Heathrow). Omer and I travelled back with nothing more than a clear plastic bag for hand luggage and checked in a painful 4 hours before take off! Since then, the world seems to have turned upside down. Planes stopped here and there, passengers being offloaded, people being detained for questioning, perhaps bassinet woes are the least of anyones worries.
Since then I've also spent a month in Saudi Arabia. I enjoyed it immensely but couldn't help wonder why people are not allowed to travel more freely to and from the kingdom-- especially those of us in Bahrain (as there is literally nowhere else for us islanders to go!). There are some beautiful beaches across from the causeway. Now the weather has improved, my visa has expired, I can simply gaze with envy at 'the other side'. hmmmm
